Hi Lino,

that's fine; I believe Murdannia keisak is still unknown as aquarium plant in Germany. I've read that this species from Asia is naturalized in North Italy where it is a weed in the rice fields. Is Your plant from there?

I've got Commelinaceae sp. "Green" from members of http://www.aquaplantexchange.nl, if I remember right, Ronald (RPB) who has contributed the photo of the plant in our database. Till now I've cultivated it emersed only , also in normal moderately moist potting soil at the windowsill where it is as robust as other terrestrial Commelinaceae (Tradescantia, Callisia etc.).
Thomas Rudolph found out that this plant most likely belongs to the genus Floscopa, but the species isn't definitely ID'ed.

Hi Heiko,
my murdannia comes from Japan, but I know it is in Italy.
However, it isn't still marketed here.
About Commelinaceae sp green,my friend Roberto Pellegrini has classified this plant as 'Floscopa scadens'.

Hi Lino,
I've found the beginning of Roberto Pellegrini's article on Floscopa scandens:
http://www.rareaquaticplants.com/le-pia ... amboo.html
but unfortunately the link doesn't lead to the full article. I'm curious about the literature Roberto used for the ID, and if he could definitely exclude other similar Floscopa species (about 20 species worldwide).

Hi Ronald,
because this Commelinaceae (likely a Cyanotis sp.) was traded erroneously as Arthraxon spec., I named it Commelinaceae sp. "Arthraxon", admittedly an unfortunate choice of name because Arthraxon is a genus of the Grasses (Poaceae).
I'm curious about the mystery how You hobbyists in NL and Belgium grow it successfully permanently submerged while others failed with the plant. Does it still well also in Your tank?

EDIT
As far as I know, till now these Commelinaceae are known as aquarium plants:
- Commelinaceae sp. "Green" (Floscopa scandens?)
- Commelinaceae sp. "Arthraxon" (Cyanotis sp.?)
- Murdannia keisak
- Murdannia sp. "Red" (submerged leaves reddish, wavy, thin)
- Murdannia sp. "Green" (known to me only from few pics in the www and catalogues, similar to M. sp. "Red"with wavy but green submerged leaves)

In botanical literature one can find hints at quite a number of aquatic and semi-aquatic Commelinaceae. One should look out for such stuff in warm to tropic regions growing in water or flood zones.

A new aquarium plant, surely a Commelinaceae too, on aquaportail.com:
http://www.aquaportail.com/fiche-plante ... munis.html
"Commelina communis" - I'm sure that the name is wrong. Below a pic of true C. communis, with much broader leaves. The photo of the plant in the tank may show emersed leaves below and first submerged ones above, with wavy margin. Leaves also considerably narrower than in Murdannia sp. "Red".

Hallo,
